Hilary and Haylie Duff: How We Support Each Other As Moms

When it comes to mommyhood, sisters Hilary and Haylie Duff are grateful they have each other to lean on.

“Somebody [asked me], ‘What is the best advice that Hilary has given you as a mom?’ and it’s like, it hasn’t been advice,” Haylie, who welcomed daughter Ryan Ava with fiancé Matt Rosenberg in May, tells PEOPLE.

“She’s been there to support me,” Haylie says of her younger sister Hilary, who’s mom to 3-year-old son Luca Cruz. “Whether I just want to cry for a minute or I just need her to hold [Ryan] for a second or whatever it is, she’s just there to support me in any way she can. I think that’s probably been the most important thing for me so far.”

Now, the sisters have joined Similac’s Sisterhood of Motherhood campaign, Sisterhood Unite, which gives parents the opportunity to share their stories and support one another.

“Instead of focusing on the judgment that we feel from other mothers, it’s giving a place for moms and dads to sound off on each other and to join in on the conversation,” Haylie, who shares she was judged for her birth plan and daughter’s name, says.

Like her sister, Hilary also felt judged as a mom, which is why the sisters are encouraging other parents to share what they will do to stop the Mommy Wars with #SisterhoodUnite on Facebook.

“I felt judgment when people found out that I had an epidural or that after seven months of breastfeeding, I had to start supplementing with formula because I was going back to work and I wasn’t making enough milk,” Hilary recalls.

The pair admits they couldn’t be happier that their children get to grow up together as well.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Haylie, 30, says. “It was something that we’ve wanted since we were little — to one day have kids together — so we’re pretty pumped.”

Hilary adds: “I think that Luca is getting more used to the idea [because] he was the only baby for a while in the family. Once Haylie didn’t have Ryan in her belly anymore, Luca was like, ‘Wait a minute. What’s happening?’ … [But] when she’s a little older and she’s moving, and he can interact with her a little more, he’ll be more interested. He’s going to be cool with her. He’s a nice kid.”

As for Luca’s latest milestones? Hilary admits her little man can pretty much “do everything.”

“He’s totally potty-trained and he’s so pumped about that, and he’s really into shapes,” the proud mama shares. “Everything is a negotiation right now, but he’s so strong and so capable. It’s funny. [He’s] just really changing every day.”

But currently, Hilary says, he’s “an outdoorsy guy, who loves racecars.”

“He’s so obsessed with Cars. All of the cars and characters from the Disney movie Cars, he’s fully obsessed with, but I love that he’s so passionate about it,” shares the 27-year-old actress, adding “everything turns into a race track, somehow.”

“He’s [also] been really into nature. We go and feed ducks all of the time — not too far from my house — we’ll take our old bread,” she explains. “He’s [also] been really into the turtles there.”
And although Ryan is only 3 months old, Haylie admits her daughter has a “little personality” of her own “even though she’s not talking yet.”

“It’s so funny because it’s so weird to say that at just a couple of weeks old you see a personality,” she says. “But she definitely is strong-willed, like if she’s not ready for bed, she will not go to bed.”
Not to mention, Ryan already has a personal fashion style.

“If I put her in something too babyish and girly, it looks funny on her,” Haylie explains. “She wears bolder colors a little better than she does the little babyish things. I put her in a little ruffly baby thing the other day and I looked at her, and she looked like she was wearing someone else’s clothes.”

But now that Haylie is starting to go back to work, she says, “It’s a good feeling to know that even as a little baby, [Ryan’s] got a little independence in her.”

“I was nine months pregnant on my cooking show and it was really important to me to be home with the baby and really do everything myself,” the Real Girl’s Kitchen host explains.

“Today’s my first day really back working so I definitely had a little anxiety leading up to it,” she continues. “But part of me is proud when I see her, when she arrives here, and she’s happy and she’s not hysterically crying, and she’s not having a meltdown. That’s encouraging to me because I do want to get back to work. I love my show.”

Hilary — who praised her older sister on how well she handled her first day back to work — admits she’s still trying to find that work-life balance herself.

“I think with me, going back to work, I got to ease into it slowly and that was good, but tough,” the Younger star shares. “Mommy guilt is very heavy … you’re not always the one picking them up from things or dropping them off.”

“It’s tough, but you have to make a living,” she adds. “Eventually, that kind of stuff will pay off because your child will know that you worked hard for them to have a good life and [it will] show them a good work ethic for their future.”

Haylie Duff's Baby With Fiance Matt Rosenberg Gets an Unusual Girl Name

Hilary Duff's big sister is now a proud mom. According to E! Online, the host of "The Real Girl's Kitchen" and her fiancé, Matt Rosenberg, had their first child this week. Haylie's rep officially shared a statement to E! to announce the happy news.

The statement read, "Haylie Duff and fiancé Matt Rosenberg welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on Monday, May 11 in Los Angeles, CA. Both mom and baby are doing great! Haylie and Matt are thrilled to finally meet their baby girl and become a family of three."
Haylie and Matt have chosen to be extraordinarily creative in naming their little girl as the baby's name may not sound feminine to many.

So what is the name the couple picked for their little bundle of joy?

They decided to name her Ryan. According to US Magazine, baby Ryan was born a little overdue. The food blogger allegedly checked into the hospital over Mother's Day weekend to be induced and only gave birth sometime this week.

Meanwhile, Haylie and Matt told People magazine how ecstatic they are of the new addition in their lives. The couple shared, "We are on cloud nine and so happy she is finally here! Thank you to everyone for all of their love, support & well wishes!"

On March, Haylie hosted a floral-themed baby shower. Hilary and other family members and friends reportedly attended the said event. Surprisingly, fans may find that the cooking show host had unusual pregnancy food cravings during her first two trimesters.

Haylie revealed, "I drink a lot of green smoothies. I think I've craved health food, which is weird, and then the occasional mac and cheese."

The new mom also disclosed that her fiancé got nervous when she tried to get some exercise. She said, "He's like, 'Don't push yourself too hard.' I'm like, 'I got it! I'm fine.' I'm just trying to move. Go on walks. I'm not trying to put too much pressure on myself either way."

Haylie's secret in keeping a fit body while expecting? "I did Soulcycle through my whole pregnancy and I go on walks with friends," she admitted. "You know, I've worked through most of it shooting season two of The Real Girl's Kitchen. So I've been active in general. I've tried to not go too maternity, but at a certain point you've got to have room, you know?"

She is also not bothered that she and Matt temporarily suspended their impending wedding plans. The host and her fiancé are currently focused on being parents to their daughter. Haylie is just amazed that she is already a mom when she ties the knot.

"It's pretty cool to think our daughter is going to be at our wedding. We still talk about things we want to do [for the wedding], but it's a big change with the baby coming. We're just trying to focus on one thing first and then we'll do it," she shared.

Haylie Duff: I’m ‘Fighting the Good Fight’ Against Maternity Clothes

Some moms-to-be take a timeout from exercise during their pregnancy. But not Haylie Duff — she just keeps on pedaling to the finish line.
In an interview with Miami Racked, the host of The Real Girl’s Kitchen — who will welcome a daughter this spring — admits her workout routine hasn’t changed much since she found out she was expecting her first child.
“I did SoulCycle through my whole pregnancy and I go on walks with friends,” says Duff, 30.
“I’ve worked through most of it, shooting season two of The Real Girl’s Kitchen. So I’ve been active in general.”
And although her baby girl with fiancé Matt Rosenberg will be the couple’s firstborn, the actress is still keeping in shape by running around after a toddler: 2½-year-old Luca Cruz, her sister Hilary Duff‘s son.
“Chasing my little nephew around and playing with him has been exercise enough,” she jokes. “We’ve taken him to the beach plenty of times.”
Just as her pregnancy hasn’t put a damper on her healthy habits, Duff has also been resistant to switch out her everyday wardrobe with more mom-to-be apparel.
“I was fighting the good fight on buying maternity clothes, but now I just have this massive belly and I can’t deny that I’m pregnant any longer!” she says, adding she has splurged on a few items, including maternity pants from Monroe and Alexander Wang tank tops.
“I’ve tried to not go too maternity, but at a certain point you’ve got to have room. I also love David Lerner maternity leggings. Those have probably been my favorite the whole time I’ve been pregnant. I’m sort of sad to lose them once I’m done with them!”
While her daughter has yet to make her big debut, Duff is already dreaming of her future as a mom. Although she has no immediate plans to write a baby food book, she’s happy to imagine all the possibilities.
“I probably need to get to the point where she’s eating real food, not just milk all the time, to really experiment with what she’s going to eat,” Duff explains.
“But I definitely have some little baby food makers and I’m really looking forward to that part of her growing. I think that’s going to be fun for me.”

Mommies unite! Hilary Duff and sister Haylie have that Extra sparkle in coordinated black and white outfits for TV show visit

Hilary Duff is the proud mother of three-year-old son Luca and now her elder sibling is parent to a baby girl.

The sisters were the picture of unity as they hit up Extra at Universal Studios Hollywood to talk kids and, one suspects, their new pet project the Sisterhood Of Motherhood Campaign on Thursday.

Also in their favour, Hilary, 27, and new mom Haylie, 30, chose matching monochrome outfits and hairstyles to show off their layered blonde locks.

Hilary wore black leather trousers with a thin white cotton T-shirt along with flattering black high heels and a dazzling necklace.

Haylie, who gave birth to her first child, a girl named Ryan Ava, on May 11, looked sleek in her own black trousers paired with a loosely fitted white top and black blazer.

But while Hilary chose high heels, Haylie went with more practical boots.

Earlier in the day, Hilary and Haylie paid a similar visit in the same clothes to KTLA Morning News where the duo talked about being mommies together.

Of course the anchors wanted to know about Haylie's pride and joy Ryan, her first child with fiancé Matt Rosenberg.

'She's 11 weeks old,' Haylie gushed about her daughter. 'It's amazing. It's so special. Hilary did it a couple years before me so I have a really great example set for me.'

Hilary actually gave birth in March of 2012, three years ago, but she certainly didn't hold that fact against her sister.
Haylie continued: 'She's helped me through certain things like swaddling... that was a big one that she came and took the reins on.'

'Sometimes we don't recognise ourselves,' Hilary said. 'We were walking through the mall the other day with both of our strollers and we were like, "Who are we?"

Hilary also spoke of getting back in the recording studio for her latest recently released effort, Breathe In, Breathe Out, marveling how dfferent it was now that she's older and a mom.

'It was exciting, it was a whole learning process for me,' Hilary admitted. 'I felt like I was doing it all over again as a new person. It was a little bit of a struggle but it was a very big release.'

One of her singles is called Sparks and the music video certainly 'has a lot of timber,' remarked celebrity entertainment reporter Lance Bass.

'Speaking of Sparks, how's the dating life going?' Lance then asked Hilary, who laughed and said, 'It's not going! It's not such a big priority.'

Hilary spoke about her and Haylie's new cause.

'Haylie and I have just joined forces with SIMILAC and they have an amazing campaign to drive people to their facebook page to start the conversation and get moms to join forces instead of having these awful mommy wars where women are just judging each other, parents are being judged.'

'There's judgment before your baby is even born, like what you name your baby, your birth plan, epidural or no epidural,' Haylie chipped in. 'To have a community where you support each other instead of being torn down... a lot of times as a mom you kind of suffer in silence.'

Haylie Duff Finally Reveals Her Daughter's Adorable Face: See the Picture!

Be still, our hearts! Haylie Duff shared an adorable photo of her nearly 4-month-old baby girl, Ryan Ava, via Instagram on Tuesday, Sept.1, and her gal’s tiny grin is heart-meltingly cute.
“Our sweet baby girl #RyanAvaErhard Rosenberg is 16 weeks old today,” the first-time mom captioned the photo, in which little Ryan smiles wide-eyed up at the camera.
Earlier in the day, Duff shared a shot of a mischevious-looking Ryan in a pink onesie with the caption, “Baby’s first vacation.”
Duff, 30, and her fiancé, Matt Rosenberg, welcomed their bundle of joy into the world on Monday, May 11. “Both mom and baby are doing great!” a rep for the Real Girl’s Kitchen host told Us Weekly at the time. “Haylie and Matt are thrilled to finally meet their baby girl and become a family of three.”
Though this is Duff’s first go as a mom, she has had some significant support from younger sister Hilary, who’s had three years of parenting son Luca, 3.
“So many people have asked me, ‘What kind of advice has Hilary given you along the way?’ And she really hasn’t,” Haylie told Yahoo Celebrity in a recent interview. “She’s just been there for me. She hasn’t tried to push her way on me. There have been times where I’ve been physically overwhelmed, and she’ll just come over and hold the baby for an hour. Just physically being there has been the best thing she’s done for me in this process.”
The sisters are currently teaming up to start a Sister of Motherhood campaign, which they hope will help moms — first time and otherwise — create a supportive community together.
“No one really understands what being a mom is like until they go through it themselves,” Hilary told Yahoo. “Even watching from the outside, Haylie was always very supportive… So it’s been a really cool time for us to be really good to one another.”
